Chikkamagaluru: Security was heightened near the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday after restrictions were imposed on Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sharan Pumpwell from entering the district.
Supporters of the VHP arrived at the DC office to submit a memorandum opposing the restrictions. In response, the administration deployed over 200 police personnel around the area and erected barricades to prevent entry into the DC’s premises.
VHP and Bajrang Dal activists expressed anger after being stopped midway before they could submit their memorandum. They criticised the district administration’s move as undemocratic.
JD(S) MLC Bhojegowda, who arrived at the barricade to meet the officials, was also stopped by the police. Frustrated by the denial of entry, he was seen confronting the police and demanding that the barricades be removed, questioning why he was not allowed inside the premises.
