Conservative activist Charlie Kirk died from the sharp bullet injury that he received as he was on a tour at Utah Valley University Wednesday. But there was no word on the shooter as confusion prevailed on whether the shooter was arrested or not.
Kirk was on tour, and this stop at Utah Valley University was the first of at least 14 scheduled at college campuses across the country this fall. He was shot when he was asked a question about mass shootings by transgender people. A shocking video showed how the bullet hit his neck, and Charlie Kirk collapsed.
“A kid came up and he asked a question about how many transgender shooters there were, and Charlie gave him another comment. And then he asked one more question, and so the question was about shooters. And before Charlie Kirk could pick up the mic again, that’s when the shot happened,” Eva Terry, who was on the ground, told CNN.
Who is the shooter?
A video of an elderly man being apprehended from the event, soon after the shooting, went viral. But confusion prevailed as attendees of the event claimed on television channels that initially, the cops probably arrested the wrong person. Utah Valley University issued a statement claiming that the suspect was not in custody, contradicting their earlier statement that the suspect was in custody. The university campus was closed and all classes were canceled.
Kirk traveled with a private security contingent and university police and local authorities were also providing security at the rally.
Was the shooter at the event or at a nearby building?
The university claimed that the shooter was in a nearby building, 200 yards away from where Charlie Kirk was shooting. But police have not confirmed anything about the shooter. Eyewitnesses present on the ground recalled the moment the bullet was shot and claimed that it must be a professional shot and it hit Charlie Kirk right in the neck.
