As we move towards winter, many households are starting to turn the heating on, but keeping the house warm all day can be a challenge. Space heaters are a popular solution, but if you find that your radiators aren't doing a lot of work warming up a room, they might need the help of a radiator fan, and we've found one for less than £70.
The SmartAir Boost XL Radiator Fan is currently available for £69.99 at Yimbly, an online marketplace owned by Express parent company Reach, reports the Mirror. Unlike a space heater, which generates heat, this fan works with your radiator to disperse heat and circulate warm air to help heat up rooms faster.
According to the brand, it's "designed to improve heat circulation to speed up room warm-up times so your thermostat switches your heating off quicker," presumably saving you money. Rather than letting heat rise slowly to the ceiling, the Boost XL thrusts it upwards, claiming to improve heat distribution.
It's 81cm long, fitting on many radiators, and is portable, so it can be moved from room to room. It also has two modes, manual and automatic: in automatic mode, the Boost XL will activate when it detects the radiator's surface heating up to 33C, redirecting warm air into the room. When the radiator cools down, the fan will turn off so it doesn't start blowing cold air.
It also has an auto-shut off safety system, turning itself off if the radiator gets to 70C and turning back on when it cools down.
Shoppers are praising the Boost XL online, with one saying: "This is amazing, I have my sofa against the radiator in my lounge which blocks out most of the heat. The fan now directs the heat over the top of my sofa and I have a warm room again. I wish I had bought one a long time ago."
Another, who left a review on Amazon, said the gadget is "Absolutely awesome. I had two smaller versions last year and they helped heat the house quicker and cheaper, and now with this larger version in the main room, it will be out of this world and last a long time when using the built-in batteries. Extremely quiet in operation and easy to use and very portable, a great must-buy for any home, would highly recommend."
A third reviewer, also from Amazon, recommended: "Highly recommend, this gadget will save you money on your home heating costs."
However, not all shoppers shared the sentiment, with one saying they found the fan to be noisy, but conceding it wasn't a problem as it worked well. They wrote: "These are a godsend, warm your room up very quickly. Very efficient and looks good to boost. Only downside, a little noisy at first but your room heats up very fast so it's acceptable.
Shoppers should keep in mind that this fan does not generate heat, so if you're after something like that you're better off choosing a space heater.
