Netflix subscribers are devouring the latest instalment of an 'extraordinary' sports documentary series in one sitting.
Following a gruelling two-year hiatus, Quarterback has made its much-anticipated comeback for season two, with seven fresh episodes now available for streaming. The programme, which follows the personal and professional journeys of American Football stars, debuted in 2023.
Netflix's synopsis states: "The hit series returns to give viewers exclusive, unprecedented access to three quarterbacks across the 2024-25 NFL season - showing all the ups and downs of navigating one of the toughest positions in sports, both on and off the field.
"Follow along as cameras go behind the scenes for the first time with Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals) and Jared Goff (Detroit Lions) and follow Season 1 fan-favorite Kirk Cousins (Atlanta Falcons) as he embarks on a new chapter in his career."
The series provides an unvarnished look at the lives of each athlete, showcasing everything from mic'd up game footage to intimate glimpses of their personal lives.
Although football is at its core, the show's broad appeal extends beyond sports enthusiasts, captivating viewers who may not typically follow the sport, reports the Mirror US.
An IMDb user confessed their limited NFL knowledge but praised the series, saying: "I know close to nothing about the NFL but I still very much enjoyed this series."
They elaborated on their experience: "I don't know the rules, terms or anything. I don't even know how the scoring system works. [The series] is a very good insight into the life of a world-class athlete in a sport I know little about. Not only have I learned more about NFL but also the mind of different athletes."
This same enthusiast offered reassurance to potential viewers: "You don't have to know the rules, because the music and narration will tell you when they do good/bad. It's more about the players' psyches rather than the sport itself."
Within just a day of the second season's release, Netflix fans have been heaping accolades on the show. "#Quarterback S2 finished in one sitting," declared an X, formerly Twitter, user.
Another viewer captivated by the new season wrote: "Quarterback season 2. I'm locked in," and yet another shared their surprise at the narrative depth: "Came obviously to watch Burrow in Quarterback Season 2.... but that Jared Goff storyline is great/compelling/amazing."
The series' production quality also didn't go unnoticed, with one fan commenting: "The 2nd season of #QuarterbackNetflix is filmed in such an interesting way.
"I can't figure out if it's because of the frame rate or the shallow depth of field, but it looks like a movie that was about the NFL back from 1986. Editing is creative and excellent. It's extraordinary."
