Whilst controversy swirls around the upcoming marriage between Olympic swimming icon Adam Peaty and Holly Ramsay, the champion athlete has a steadfast ally in Holly's father, renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. Holly has faced criticism recently, being described as "divisive and hurtful" following reports she chose not to extend a wedding invitation to Peaty's mother.
The dispute erupted when Holly, 25, included her own mother, Tana, close family friend Victoria Beckham and Adam's sister in her hen party celebrations, whilst excluding Adam's mum, Caroline, 59. Adam, in the meantime, is understood to have asked Gordon, also 59, to join his stag do festivities. Gordon has previously demonstrated his genuine affection for Peaty, commending the triple Olympic gold medallist and even attending a demanding triathlon last August, where Peaty represented the celebrity chef's squad.
Ramsay was forced to sit out the event himself, owing to having stitches in his cheek, instead assuming the position of supporter at the Royal Victoria Dock in London. When Peaty completed the course, an elated Ramsay embraced him, thrilled with his prospective son-in-law's achievement.
Bestowing his blessing upon the triple Olympic champion, Ramsay declared that he and his wife Tana "couldn't ask for anyone better" as their son-in-law. He also revealed details of how Peaty informed them about his proposal plans for Holly.
"He's a very nice guy," Gordon said. "He's so down to earth and so focused and disciplined. "He sat us down in Cornwall and he said, 'Holly is just the perfect woman.
"I'd like to get your blessing - from you and Tana for her hand in marriage'. It was that sort of amazing moment. Everything went quiet.
"As a future son-in-law, we couldn't ask for anyone better. He's so grounded. Those two get on so well. It's a blessing."
The celebrity chef has been actively participating in the wedding preparations and even accidentally revealed the couple's wedding plans. "It's going to be a Christmas wedding," Ramsay disclosed during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.
"They're looking at areas and venues and lots of planning."
Yet the forthcoming celebrations have been overshadowed by family discord. Peaty's aunt, Louise Williams, publicly expressed her frustration at Holly through an Instagram message.
She wrote: "@hollyramsayy I'm so glad that you had a great hen do. As a bride, you deserve that. However, as a person you were divisive and hurtful towards a woman, who I have loved and continue to love deeply.
"A woman who opened her home and heart to you. You decided, for whatever reason, not to invite her, your prospective mother-in-law to your hen night yet Adam invited his father-in-law, your dad, to his stag night.
"You invited your mum (quite rightly) and even your mum's assistant, your sisters, your friends, my niece, but not my sister, your future mother-in-law.
"I have also seen messages passing between her and Adam about this and other matters and, quite frankly, I expected better of you and definitely of Adam. You have inflicted a hurt on my sister that will take a very long time to heal if ever."
The Daily Mail reported that Peaty had become estranged from his mother following his relationship with the Ramsay family. It is understood that the swimmer and his fiancee have now barred Caroline from attending the wedding ceremony itself, which is scheduled to take place on Christmas Day at Bath Abbey.
Caroline, from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, entered the explosive dispute by expressing her anguish in an Instagram post. She wrote: "Crying is a way your eyes speak when your mouth can't explain how broken your heart is."
Her post received messages of solidarity and worry from friends including one who wrote: "Don't let them drag you down Caroline."
The same individual continued: "You know considering they are both supposed to be mental health advocates they don't seem to be showing much regard for yours."
The remark referenced the mental health difficulties experienced by Holly and world champion Adam, who stepped away from competitive swimming in 2023 following "three years of hell," during which he struggled with depression and alcoholism.
