During the latest instalment of Emmerdale, Charity Dingle (played by Emma Atkins) had a blazing row with husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) over her decision to be a surrogate for her poorly grandchild Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), who cannot have a child as she recently underwent a hysterectomy to save her life after being diagnosed with cancer.
Charity agreed to go through IVF and wants to help Sarah by giving her a child of her own, but Mack exploded at her as he fears the worst for his wife. The Scotsman raged at Charity: "So helping Sarah become a mother is more important than your life or having a baby of your own. Do you know how messed up that sounds? I've been completely blindsided by this."
He branded Charity beyond "irresponsible" as the argument escalated, but the latter was not taking anymore of her husband's yelling as she defended her decision to help Sarah.
By the end of the episode, the pair had another difficult conversation, with Charity saying: "Nine months out of the rest of our lives, it doesn't have to affect us." However, Mack snapped back: "Don't do it, if you love me, like you say you do... Just tell Sarah, 'No'."
He then gave Charity an ultimatum: Deny Sarah what she wants most in the world, or lose him. As Mack stormed off in frustration over the impossible situation, viewers flocked to X to share their theories.
Some are concerned that Charity might rekindle her relationship with her ex-lover, Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), in upcoming scenes, saying she would be a lot more understanding than Mack.
One viewer said, "Please tell me Charity and Mack are going to split. I want it to happen! Charity deserves to be with Vanessa #vanity."
A second added: "Just get rid of him, Charity. Unfortunately, I don't think she will. The worst thing that ever happened was Mackt**t's appearance in this show. Ruined charity's character beyond recognition
A third remarked: "Mack deserves better no doubt desperate Charity will be back with boring Vanessa before the years out."
Someone else said: "I bet Vanessa would have been supportive of charity #Emmerdale."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
