A major energy supplier is set to give away free electricity to households this month. Helping families beat the summer holiday drain EDF Energy is offering six hours of free electricity to customers in August as part of its Sunday Saver Challenges.
Households which register for the scheme can get free power on Sunday, August 10, between 2pm and 8pm. Between these times EDF customers can enjoy free electricity to power up their summer fun, whether that's baking sweet treats, having a dance party, or settling in for a family movie marathon with your favourite snacks. To be eligible, you must sign up to take part in the next Sunday Saver challenge by August 9.
Households that participated in the June challenge or registered for the provider's free electricity event in July will automatically be included and need not do anything.
Sunday Saver rewards customers who shift their electricity use away from weekday peak hours (4pm-7pm), helping them save money and reduce demand on the grid.
Brits can earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity each week, depending on how much they shift.
For example, if you shift 50% of your peak usage, you can earn up to 16 free hours to use the following Sunday. To join, visit the Energy Hub in your MyAccount monthly and sign up for the challenge. If you miss the sign-up deadline, EDF can send you an alert when the next challenge sign-up period opens.
Rich Hughes, director of retail at EDF said: "Customers will have six hours of free electricity to power their summer fun, whether it's a family bake off, karaoke session or movie marathon, all while tackling the never-ending laundry pile.
"And by joining the next Sunday Saver challenge, those who shift their energy use outside peak times could earn up to 16 hours of free electricity - and when combined with our new tariff, customers can save even more cash on their bills."
EDF explains on its website: "Sunday Saver's on its summer hols... but don't worry!
"While Sunday Saver's briefly paused, register to get a reminder for when our next Sunday Saver challenge is running, and you'll automatically get up to six hours free electricity to use from 2pm to 8pm on Sunday, 10 August.
"Register your interest for a reminder of our next Sunday Saver challenge before midnight, 9 August to get automatic access to August's free electricity event."
