Addressing the popularity of The Summer I Turned Pretty, TV executive Vernon Sanders told Deadline recently: “If you think about it, this was a book series that was published a fair while ago, and so I think there have been a number of people who’ve come into this over the years.
“What Jenny [Han] has been able to do, and hopefully we’ve been able to help, is build this community that has just been incredibly passionate and committed and interested.”
The first The Summer I Turned Pretty novel came out in 2009 and the final one was published in 2011, while the show first debuted in 2022.
This means there’s been a good decade of readers coming to the books, which gave the show a pre-made fanbase and in part helped to fuel the show’s success.
