Devastating moment he discovered Ozzy had diedJack revealed the moment he received the devastating news his dad, Ozzy Osbournehad died as he received the news at home in Los Angeles. Jack had been by his dad's side during the Back to the Beginning show at Villa Park and stayed to be with his family for a week after.
Sadly, it would prove to be the last time he would see his legendary father alive. He explained in a touching YouTube video six weeks after Ozzy's passing how he was back in LA when there was a knock on the door on July 22.
He emotionally told viewers he left the UK on July 13 to return home. "My dad was great," he said. "He was in a good mood he was happy. I woke up in Los Angeles to a knock on my house door at around 3.45 in the morning.
"Someone who has worked for my family for about 30 years now was knocking on my door and when I looked through my window and I saw it was him I knew something bad had happened."
Visibly emotional, Jack went on: "I was informed that my father had passed." He paused as he took in the moment and explained he immediately felt sadness and pain.
"So many thoughts," he said. "There was a level of like 'okay, he's not struggling. He's not suffering anymore'. And that is something. I wish he was still here, you know? I wish he was still with us all, but he was having a rough go and I think people saw that at the show."
However, despite his dad's ailing health, he confessed his death was not something that was on the family's "radar". He went on to shoot down any speculation of it being a "euthanised" death and said his dad was looking forward to the future.
Ozzy's cause of death was confirmedas being from an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction (joint causes). His occupation on his death certificate was listed as "rock legend, songwriter and performer."
Touching funeral message
Jack said he immediately booked a flight back to England. And he later revealed how he shared a touching message with the mourners at the Prince of Darkness' funeral.
"I actually shared this at my at my father's funeral," Jack said. "There's an interview with Keanu Reeves. He's on some nighttime talk show or whatever and they asked him, 'What do you think happens when you die?'
"And Keanu Reeves answer was, 'I don't know what happens when you die, but what I do know is the people that love you miss you the most'."
An emotional Jack went on: "I felt that immensely. He wasn't just a father to me. He was my colleague. We worked together in so many capacities. I had recently moved, there was a period where I was between houses and I moved back in with him. So, he was my housemate in my my late 30s and it was awesome. Me and the kids were living here. Just a friend, a text buddy, a joke cracker."
Unbreakable bond
In the 16-minute speech, Jack also revealed the "great relationship" he shared with his dad, saying how grateful and lucky he was to have him in his life. "You know, he was deeply complicated," he said.
"He was funny, and weird and awkward and clumsy and just hilarious and so insightful." And with a smile on his face he admitted his dad "knew what was going on" and said he was "very aware" of what was going on and how people perceived him.
He also admitted he felt his dad's exit from the world had a hint of "perfection" to it. "There was so much accomplished before the full stop," Jack said.
Jack also admitted that more stories of his dad's final days will come "when the time is right," confessing he was shocked by just how much love was shared from members of the public and showbiz world.
Overwhelmed by public supportAs Jack thanked everyone for their actions in the days after Ozzy's death, he revealed "we saw it all".
"I speak for the family when I saw this. We are so grateful for that and it meant so much.... it was validating because I know we weren't alone."
Signing off, Jack insisted his dad's legacy will continue and will not end just because his life is over. "He's exploding through the universe and we're all seeing it. So, I'll just end with this, you know, thank you."
Ridiculous death rumoursJack also shut down the 'ridiculous' rumours that his dad Ozzyhad plans to fly to Switzerland to undergo assisted end-of-life care.
The rumours swirled following his death, with it possibly stemming from Sharon's confession that she and Ozzy 'believe 100 per cent in euthanasia'. However, daughter Kelly put an end to the rumours and said her mother's comment was just 'to get attention one time'.
Jack said of the rumours: "There were all sorts of stuff going around about my dad being, you know, going to Switzerland and was going to euthanize himself, and this was all planned and it was not absolutely not.
"That is categorically untrue and ridiculous. And you know my dad had, you know, he was so happy that he did the show, and he was happy to kind of move into this next phase of his life."
"He wanted to to spend more time in England. He wanted to spend more time with my kids. He wanted to spend more time with just exploring."
