Mumbai: Following the success of the underground holding tank at Hindmata junction, the BMC has decided to build a mini-pumping station alongside an underground holding tank at Mankhurd. This project aims to tackle waterlogging in the eastern suburbs and maintain uninterrupted traffic flow on the Eastern Express Highway.
New Station Near Mankhurd Subway
A new pumping station is set to be constructed near the cross-subway at Mankhurd. It will feature three high-capacity pumps, each capable of discharging 3,000 cubic metres of water per hour. The station will include an underground tank with a storage capacity of approximately 1 to 2 lakh litres.
Relief For Eastern Suburbs
It is expected to provide relief to Maharashtra Nagar and the T Junction area, which are frequently affected by waterlogging during the monsoon season. It will also ensure smooth traffic on Sion- Panvel highway.
"During heavy rains, by channeling rainwater to drains or the holding tank, the pumps will reduce flooding and keep vehicles moving without delay at Mankhurd,” said an official.
