Mumbai: A 12-year-old boy from Ghatkopar has been reported missing after he left home following a minor argument with his sister. The incident occurred on the afternoon of July 25, and the boy has not been found since. The Ghatkopar Police have registered a case of kidnapping against an unidentified person and have launched a search operation.

According to the police, the missing boy has been identified as Aniket Kamal Lohani, a resident of Govind Nagar, Asalfa, Ghatkopar. Aniket, a Class 6 student at Fatima High School in Vidyavihar (West), lived with his father Kamal Jagdish Lohani, 49, mother Kiran Lohani,46, and elder sister Ruchika,18.

As per the complaint lodged by the boy’s father, Aniket was upset after a minor domestic disagreement with his sister, who had left for her afternoon class without resting with him — a routine he apparently expected. Upset, Aniket allegedly yelled at her, after which she left home. Aniket tried to follow her, but their grandmother, Bhagwati, prevented him from going out.

Frustrated, Aniket allegedly argued with his grandmother, pushed her, grabbed an umbrella, and left the house. When he did not return by evening, the family began searching for him. After failing to trace him, they approached Ghatkopar Police Station and reported him missing.

Given the child’s age, the police have registered a kidnapping case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an unknown person. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area and conducting inquiries with relatives and acquaintances to trace the missing boy.

With the help of CCTV footage, the Ghatkopar police discovered that the boy was in the Asalfa area. Meanwhile, during the search, his father found him late in the evening on July 26.
