Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda joined the ongoing debate over the treatment of stray dogs in Delhi after the Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai agreed to review a recent Supreme Court order on the matter. On Wednesday (August 13), Randeep shared photos with his dogs on social media and welcomed the CJI's decision to look into the issue.
Stressing the need for humane and practical solutions, the actor wrote, "So glad to hear that the Honourable CJI has agreed to look into the ruling about stray dogs in NCR. Passing a law and implementing a law should be firstly humane and secondly the infrastructure and sensitivity needs to be taken care of."
He said stray dogs are both "our collective community humanitarian responsibility" and, at times, "a menace." Randeep added, "I'm glad the SC ruling has started this larger conversation. I love animals but will I be able to justify it to a family that has lost a loved one to rabies or dealt with serious injuries? No."

While cautioning against a blanket removal of stray dogs, Randeep proposed long-term measures instead.
"Impounding the entire population of dogs might not be a good idea or feasible. So let's as citizens look at alternatives. The only alternative is large scale and cyclic neutering and maybe redistributing or capturing of aggressive packs that have become very territorial. This is a long term possible solution that over the years will reduce the numbers. Also adopt as many as you can and be actually responsible for them. I know I have."

The actor's comments come after the CJI, on Wednesday, responded to concerns raised in court about contradictory Supreme Court rulings on stray dogs. An advocate highlighted that two benches had issued conflicting directions. According to ANI, CJI Gavai said, "I will look into this."
All about the recent order
One recent order directed the relocation of stray dogs in Delhi to shelters, with instructions that no captured animal be released back on the streets. The bench warned of contempt action against anyone obstructing such drives and ordered civic bodies to set up shelters with sterilisation and immunisation facilities.
While some residents see this as a step toward reducing dog bite cases, animal welfare advocates argue it is unjust to remove all strays, pointing to the need for balanced and compassionate solutions, something Randeep's post also calls for.
