India’s largest electronic company by sales, Samsung India said it has reported record sales growth in the Navratri-Dussehra period for premium smartphones and televisions, aided by the reduction in goods and services tax rates which has improved consumption sentiments.

A Samsung India spokesperson said while sales of premium smartphones, priced upwards of Rs 30,000, jumped 1.4 times versus the corresponding period last year, premium television sales went up two-fold.

“Samsung saw record sales of premium smartphones during the Navratri and Dussehra festive period,” a company spokesperson said. This was due to robust sales of handsets like Z Fold7, Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24.

The South Korean giant, who competes with Apple, Sony and LG in the Indian market, also reported a 2x jump in premium televisions of 55-inches and above as compared to the corresponding festive period last year on account of deals, extended warranties, GST rate cut and increasing adoption of AI televisions in India.

The government reduced GST rates on a slew of consumer products including large screen televisions of more than 32-inches screen size, dishwashers and refrigerators.

While there has been no revision in GST rates of smartphones, refrigerators and washing machines, these products too have got a big windfall in sales as consumers perceived them to have become cheaper and due to overall savings in their consumption basket, industry executives said.

As per estimates from TechInsights Mobile End Markets and Counterpoint Research, the first wave of India's festive season from September 22nd to October 2nd, 2025, saw a 5-6% increase in smartphone sales in units compared to the first wave of the festive season in 2024. Counterpoint estimates by value sales have gone up by 11-12%.

TechInsights said in the overall (online plus offline) Indian market, Samsung led the smartphone sales during the first wave closely followed by Apple and Vivo. The researcher said Samsung captured 18% market share.

The second wave of festive season sales will start from this weekend and end with Dhanteras and Diwali.
