How to Verify Fake Bank Calls: If you've received a call, email, or SMS purporting to be from a bank or financial institution, be cautious. It could be a fake call or message. But don't worry, the government has launched a new system that allows you to easily determine whether the call is genuine or fake. This feature is now available on the Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) Sanchar Saathi portal. This portal will help users protect themselves from digital fraud and identify trustworthy institutions.
New System Will Tell If Call Is Fake
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched a new system that allows citizens to verify whether an email, call, or website they receive is from a genuine bank or institution. The system aims to protect people from digital fraud. The DoT stated that this initiative aims to empower citizens to choose safe digital options so they don't fall prey to scammers' tricks.
Information tweeted on social media
The DoT shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) stating that citizens should now use the #SancharSaathi portal to verify any suspicious call, email, or website. The department tweeted that it's crucial to verify any link or message before clicking on it.
Official information available through the Sanchar Saathi portal
This system is part of the Sanchar Saathi portal. Users can search for any bank or financial institution by entering its name, website, email address, or number. If the information is valid, the portal will display all the institution's official details, such as website links, email addresses, toll-free numbers, and other ways to contact customer service. This way, anyone can easily verify the authenticity of a call or email.
How to use
To use this feature, users must visit sancharsaathi.gov.in.
Selecting a number, email address, or website and searching will provide complete information.
However, data for some private banks, such as ICICI Bank, is currently incomplete.
Information such as WhatsApp numbers or customer service contacts is currently not available.
Still, this system is an important step towards preventing scams and will protect millions of users from digital fraud.
