Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to launch a big mission next week to promote natural farming in the country. PM Modi will formally launch a program of Rs 2,481 crore a few days later, which aims to promote sustainable farming on 7.50 lakh hectares of land and increase the income of 1 crore farmers. This claim has been made in an ET report quoting a senior government official.
This scheme has been named the National Natural Farming Mission (NMNF), which has been prepared by the government's think tank, Niti Aayog. The mission will be run under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. According to the report, the central government is contributing ₹ 1,584 crore for this scheme, while the states are contributing ₹ 897 crore. Its formal inauguration will take place on August 23, but registration of farmers for this program has already started.
Farmers of these states will benefit.
According to the report, the Agriculture Ministry will run this scheme for the next two years. After this, it will be extended further according to success and budget allocation. The objective of this mission is to reduce the cost of farming and the dependence of farmers on chemical fertilizers. Initially, this mission will be run in those places where natural farming is already in practice. For this, 15,000 clusters have been divided among the Gram Panchayats. Farmers of states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu will benefit from it initially.
Responsibility from fertilizer to branding
The objective of this mission is to promote natural and sustainable farming in a scientific way, so that farmers can grow healthy food for families and consumers while dealing with challenges like climate change. Under the mission, the government will create 10,000 bio-input resource centers, from where ready-to-use natural agricultural fertilizers and other things can be easily delivered to the farmers. Not only this, but an easy and simple certification system will also be prepared for the farmers. Common market will also be made available to the farmers for branding. Real-time geotagging and monitoring of the produce will be done through an online portal.
