How to cancel voter card?
If you have two voter cards. Then it is necessary to cancel one voter card. For this, first of all you have to go to the official website of Election Commission of India https://voters.eci.gov.in/. If you already have an account, then you have to login. If not, then you have to register with mobile number and email.
After this, you have to go to the 'Forms' section on the homepage and click on Form 7 (Objection for inclusion/Deletion of name). In which you have to fill your details. Which will have information like name, address, date of birth, voter ID number.
After this you have to tell why you want to cancel the card. For this, in 'Reason for Deletion', you will have to select duplicate card or double registration. After this, you will have to upload a copy of your voter ID.
After uploading the copy of the voter card, you can submit the form. After submitting the form, you will get a reference number through which you can check the status of your request. Your BLO can also come to your house for verification based on your request. The entire process can take 15 to 30 days.
What will happen if it is not cancelled?
If you have two voter cards. And you have not cancelled one voter card. Then there can be a problem later. The Election Commission considers it legally wrong. Because a person's name should not be registered at more than one place. If it is found that you have two voter IDs. Then your name can be removed from both the places.
Apart from this, if a person intentionally registers more than once or gets a voter card made by giving fake information. Then action can be taken against him under BNS section 179 which provides for imprisonment up to 1 year.
